Fun Run

All students will participate in the Fun Run tomorrow, Friday, October 25, 2013.

Please make sure that your child is dressed in gym shoes, warm and comfortable clothing and a jacket.  2nd Graders will participate in this 30 minute event from 9:40am - 10:15am. Students will have a brief warm-up and then walk/run for approximately 15-20 minutes on the turf filed.  Once the walk/run time has expired, students will be directed to the blacktop to enjoy a refreshing snack and get a class photo with our school mascot.

Students can receive pledges before and after the even.  Pledges can be made using the online system thegetmoveincrew.com .  Parents are encouraged to register and create a custom web page for their child.  Parents can create custom emails and add posts to social media websites.  Students whose parents use the email/social media to promote pledges raise 3x more than those who just verbally ask for cash/check donations.

There will be individual and classroom pledge rewards.

Xtramath

This week, students tried out Xtramath on our classroom MacBook Airs! It is a great way for students to practice basic math facts and develop math fact fluency! This week I sent home information on how to get your child set up using Xtramath at home! (This is the same information that went home with your Curriculum Night packet).  It is important as it has your child's personal code that you will need to input so they can log on at home (It is a different log in from the one we use at school on the shared computers). Having trouble? Watch this video to help you get started.... (let me know if you need your child's personal code again!)

Walk to School Day is Wed October 9th!

*Sorry about the confusion on dates! This is the finalized date!

Next Wednesday (Oct. 9th) is Walk to School Day.  Children from around the world are going to be walking to school to promote fitness and exercise.  Thirty years ago almost 70% of kids walked to school and now it's less than 15%!

Every child that walks to school will receive a stamp on their hand and a paper shoe that they can color, cut out, put their name on, and return to me (both will be put in your mailboxes).  Mr. Hancock will hang them up in the gym!

Any child that "MUST" ride the bus or get a ride to school that day, can walk with Mr. Hancock at lunch to get their shoe and sticker.

Happy Walking!

Welcome Back to School!

We had a wonderful first day back to school today! What a great group of students we have! :)  We spent time getting to know each other through writing and get-up-and-move-about activities. We read a story called "First Day Jitters" and did a corresponding writing activity. Also, we had Art and Spanish! What a busy and successful day! You will see that your student came home with his/her S.T.A.R. (Students That Are Responsible) Book. This folder should come to school and go home with your child every single day.  In the folder you will find a wealth of information about me, classroom procedures, a volunteer form and our first homework assignment (Due on Friday).  The binder also contains a daily behavior chart (which you should check daily, initially at each week's end) and a Reading Log (to be completed nightly).  Please remember to send your child to school each day with a water bottle (to be taken home everyday, cleaned and refilled) and a small healthy snack (We will have snack in the classroom each day). Please remember we are a nut-free classroom! I look forward to another amazing day tomorrow!
