Place Value Fun!

Today we introduced Place Value using marshmallows (ones), pretzel sticks (tens) and Saltine crackers (hundreds).  We rolled a dice 3 times and used the snacks to show the correct number!
This photograph shows the number 225. (2 hundreds, 2 tens and 5 ones)!

We also watched a video and sang along with this Place Value Song!

We had so much fun with this engaging lesson! Feel free to try it at home! :)

Small Group Work/ LiteracyCenters

Today students did a fantastic job working in small groups during Literacy Centers! Check out some pictures of students at work!

Listening to Reading: Students listened to "The Little Red Hen" and then made a booklet sequencing the events of the story. (RL 5 - Beginning, Middle and End)
Work on Writing: Students responded to 2 prompts 1) What do you like best about your new class?; and 2) Who is a new friend or friend that you have made and what do you like to do together? Afterwards, students had to time to "Free Write" about anything they wanted in their notebooks.
Read to Self: Students are working on building reading stamina! The kids did such a great job of staying focused and on task while reading quietly and independently.
Word Work: Today students worked on "Read and Writing the Room". They selected two letters and tried to find words found around the room beginning with that letter. Then they carefully read and wrote down any other words they could find.  *Usually we will also do spelling practice with our weekly spelling words (no spelling words this week).
